Uptown Scrooge: Abridged!

Step into Scrooge…and then take a load off! Beloved holiday tradition "Uptown Scrooge" returns for its sixth season, this time with a (seated) twist! All performances of “Uptown Scrooge: Abridged” will take place within the cozy environs of Java Central’s stage room, where theatergoers will be treated to a whirlwind 60-minute rendition of “A Christmas Carol” chock-full of Good Medicine Production’s signature blend of audience participation, improv, physical comedy, dance and sing-alongs. While in past years audience members and performers battled the elements as the walking tour moved from one location to the next, this year’s attendees will stay warm, dry and hydrated as they enjoy the seated, ticketed performance. The dynamic cast—including Jacob Marley, Nephew Fred, the Ghosts of Christmas Present, Past, Future and a precocious Tiny Tim—will guide audiences through the story at lightning speed. And Scrooge? Once again, the audience takes on the role of Dickens’ reformed curmudgeon, controlling the narrative and keeping everyone on their toes! As the sands of time tick down, the goal is to complete the entire tale in just 60 minutes. "Uptown Scrooge: Abridged" is brought to you by Good Medicine Productions, the group behind popular interactive theater experiences such as “Uptown Clue,” “Uptown Ghost Story Tours,” “Uptown Scrooge,” and the upcoming “Whiskey Wars: A Speakeasy Dinner Theater Event.” The nonprofit theatrical ensemble was founded in 2016 with a mission to bring transformative joy to those who need it most. Based in Westerville, the group regularly engages in therapeutic comedic interactive performances with patients at Nationwide Children's Hospital and residents at senior living facilities across central Ohio. Good Medicine also holds classes and summer theater camps for school-aged children. Good Medicine Productions is supported by: The Columbus Foundation Community Arts Fund and is made possible in part by state tax dollars allocated by the Ohio Legislature to the Ohio Arts Council (OAC). The OAC is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically. Performance Information Uptown Scrooge will run Sunday afternoons, Dec. 1 – 22, 2024. Show times are 12:45 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. An additional performance will take place the night of the Westerville Tree Lighting on Saturday Dec. 7 with a 4 p.m. performance (before the ceremony). Each performance lasts approximately 60 minutes, with a check-in 15-minutes prior to the performance to allow audience members time to purchase food and drink before the show. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students and children. Show check in is at Java Central Cafe and Roaster, 20 S. State St., Suite B, Westerville, OH 43081.
