Thoughtful Discussion on Immigration

Braver Angels is a national nonprofit that promotes civil discussion between people who disagree with each other on political issues in order to find common ground. A small group of us meets monthly in Central Ohio. This year, we're focusing on immigration to demonstrate to Congress and the nation that Americans with differing views on immigration can find common ground. Oour goal is to work in a red/blue balanced way and include Americans from all sides of the issue. . . We will be using The Braver Angels Process: 1. We state our views freely and fully, without fear. 2. We treat people who disagree with us with honesty, dignity, and respect 3. We welcome opportunities to engage those with whom we disagree. 4. We believe all of us have blind spots and none of us are not worth talking to. 5. We seek to disagree accurately. avoiding exaggeration and stereotypes. 6. We look for common ground where it exists and, if possible, find ways to work together. 7. We believe that, in disagreements, both sides share and learn. 8. In Braver Angels, neither side is teaching the other or giving feedback on how to think or say things differently. . . If you would like to research the topic beforehand, one option is to go to BraverAngels.org website, type “immigration” into the search bar. A whole range of long and short opinion pieces, history, videos, and personal memoirs will appear.
