ASAP’s Faith-Based Support Specialist (FBSS) Training Expands to South Carolina
Free One-Day Conference Empowers Faith Leaders to Tackle Substance Use in Their Communities
COLUMBIA, SC – December 5, 2025 — The Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) is proud to announce its upcoming Faith-Based Support Specialist (FBSS) Training Conference, set to take place at the South Carolina State Museum, 301 Gervais St, Columbia, SC, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This free, one-day event is designed to equip religious leaders of all faiths with the tools and certified resources necessary to address substance use within their communities. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
Since its inception, the FBSS program has certified nearly 500 faith leaders across the State of Alabama, helping bridge the gap between faith and mental health. The program’s success has led to national expansion, training hundreds more in cities such as Kent, WA; New Orleans, LA; Nashville, TN; New York, NY; and Washington, D.C.
“Faith leaders are often the first point of contact for individuals and families in crisis,” said Seyram Selase, Executive Director for ASAP. “Their presence is necessary in the efforts to save lives.”
The FBSS Conference provides evidence-informed education and connects participants with certified treatment and recovery resources in their communities. Through partnerships with state mental health departments and national prevention networks, ASAP continues to mobilize faith leaders to serve as vital allies in addressing substance use and promoting recovery.
Registration is free but space is limited. Interested faith leaders are encouraged to register today at fbss.asaprev.com.
