BIERKELLER COLUMBIA’S CHRISTMAS MARKETS TO OPEN SATURDAY, 30 NOVEMBER (COLUMBIA, SC) – Now in its 2nd year, Bierkeller’s Annual Weihnachtsmarkt Christmas Market will be open every advent weekend, from the end of November until the weekend before Christmas. Come experience the unique atmosphere of Germany's world-famous Christmas Markets right here in Columbia, South Carolina. Located on the Canalside Plaza on the banks of the Congaree River in a cozy (gemütlich) setting, the markets feature local vendors; specialty foods; classic Christmas and other live music; festive lights; hot, mulled Glühwein; hot chocolate; and, of course, holiday and other beer. “This is one of our favorite festivals,” says Bierkeller Business Development and Events Manager, Brittany Jacobsen. “And this year we’re expanding our offerings even more! We’ll have more in the way of traditional decor, food, and gifts.” Vendors of items such as candles; tree decorations and ornaments; sweets and candied nuts; original arts and crafts; and of course traditional German foods such as bratwurst and potato pancakes with applesauce will all be on hand. Bierkeller will brew a special winter smoked bockbier, as well as the popular Weizenbock strong wheat beer for the occasion. “We’re brewing our beloved Weizenbock with a slight tweak to add a hint of winter flavor. Think the usual clove and banana, with some date and raisin,” says Justin Purdy, Bierkeller Brewer. “We’re also very excited to release – by popular demand – our first Rauchbock, or smoke bockbier. The more bocks the merrier!” Also making an appearance each weekend will be Sankt Nikolaus (AKA Santa Claus/St Nick). “Santa will be at the Christmas Market on each Saturday AND Sunday from 2pm-5pm for photos,” Jacobsen explains. “On Saturdays he will join the kids in the kids’ zone for questions and wishes, and on Sunday’s he’ll hold storytime in his tent he’s bringing from the North Pole. He’ll also have his naughty and nice lists…so tell the kids to be extra good as the time draws near!” Parents: come prepared with your cell phones/cameras; pics with Santa are FREE, but you’ll need to be the ones taking them. This year’s market will take place on the following dates during normal Bierkeller business hours: Weekend 1: November 30th - December 1st Weekend 2: December 7th - December 8th Weekend 3: December 14th - December 15th Weekend 4: December 21st - December 22nd “We’re truly honored and so excited to put this unique event on for our city and region,” concludes Bierkeller Owner and Founder, Scott Burgess. “We’re, well, a lot like a kid at Christmastime.
