Langston Hughes Poetry Center Open Mic Poetry Contest


Allen University's Langston Hughes Poetry Center and the Mu Sigma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. invite you to participate in an open mic poetry competition on Thursday, February 26. Poets should perform original work that honors the spirit of of Langston Hughes, a leading figure of the Harlem Renaissance who is remembered for classic poems such as "Harlem" and "I, Too" that celebrate Black joy and call for global resistance to racial and economic oppression. 1st place - $200 | 2nd place - $150 | 3rd place - $100 | 4th place - $50 The event is free and open to the public, but space for participants is limited. Make sure to register as an open mic performer if you intend to compete! Agenda: 5:15pm - Reception: Enjoy light hors d'oeuvres and visit the Langston Hughes Poetry Center (1329 Pine Street) which houses a large collection of poetic works by writers of color. 6:00pm - Open Mic Contest: Join us in the Waverly-Clyburn Building Auditorium for the competition (2200 Hamption Street, 1 block away fromt the Poetry Center) Can't make it in person?
