“Uncanny: 16 Mannequin Portraits” and “Hell Is All Around You”
“Assembled as head shots for a modeling portfolio, these 16 portraits highlight the realism and individuality of each mannequin’s sculpt instead of emphasizing their intended use as a clothes hanger and selling tool. All 16 of these mannequins actually started out as portrait busts created by 3 different sculptors at one company. Spanning the years of 1978-1985, each mannequin bears the name of the person who sat for the sculptor. This group of faces belonged to models, friends, makeup artists, and other industry people. Each became a little piece of fashion history- some remembered some forgotten, but all helped define their eras of retail and display, and all became works of art in their own right.” -Aaron Graves
