Scenes and Structures
Art lovers and collectors are invited to experience "Scenes and Structures," an evocative new exhibition featuring the miniature assemblage works of Linda Mayer and the atmospheric oil paintings of Michael Guinane. This exhibition captures the essence of ordinary moments, transforming them into extraordinary artistic expressions.
Linda Mayer's assemblage boxes transport viewers into intricately crafted miniature worlds that embody a childlike sense of wonder. "I am inspired by being in the moment, observing the places and people around me," says Mayer. "When I’m painting or working on my assemblage boxes, I draw on the same sense of wonder in the ordinary that I felt at 4 or 5 years old. I think most artists feel this way, and our work is a way for others to see the world through our eyes."
Complementing Mayer’s work, Michael Guinane’s oil paintings encapsulate the emotion of a single moment in time. Whether depicting a solitary figure lost in thought, a bustling urban street, or a quiet winter night in the park, Guinane’s pieces invite the viewer to step into the atmosphere he creates. "Whether it be a moment in history or a personal experience, my work is about capturing the feeling and mood of being in a certain place or time," says Guinane.
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Michael Guinane moved to Columbus in 1996 to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design, where he graduated with a BFA in Illustration in 2000. Since then, he has exhibited widely in galleries and public venues across the country while also teaching painting courses at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center. He is currently represented by the Sharon Weiss Gallery in Columbus and the Sharpe Gallery in Maine.
