In our 40th Season, the CJO will be celebrating by sharing some of the many amazing internationally recognized talents that have been nurtured by the CJO through growing and maturing its own performers and through its ever impactful Educational Outreach.
The CJO's Holiday shows are always a favorite-a nice mix of traditional sounds and as always, completely new takes via from our gifted pool of composers and arrangers.
Kate Prather Reid grew up in Cuyahoga Falls and played keyboard and sang in the vaunted Gold Tones big band (Dave Banks, Scott Garlock, and former members Mark Lopeman, Mark Earley were also members) there. In the Gold Tones and at Mount Union, her big band experiences were led by CJO members. From there, she went to Western Michigan's Gold Company and her voice and keyboard work have been not only helping students (she now is the head of the vocal jazz department at the vaunted Frost School of Music at the University of Miami) but on numerous commercials (TMobile, Ace Hardware) movies (Star Trek, Men in Black) and she's been featured with the likes of Josh Groban, John Clayton, Jon Hendricks and the Duke Ellington Orchestra. A regular performer on both coasts, she has recorded with Ernie Watts, Grady Tate and Robin Eubanks.
