It examines how Hitler and the Nazi Party gained and exercised power through legal mechanisms, the complicity of the German judiciary, and the use of law to define, marginalize, and persecute Jews. Topics include expropriation, ghettoization, and genocide, as well as post–war legal responses such as Holocaust denial laws, freedom of speech, art restitution, reparations, and war crimes trials. The course highlights the role of law in both enabling atrocities and seeking justice afterward.
