Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik (1903–1993) was one of the most profound Jewish philosophers of the modern era. This course introduces his major writings and enduring insights, accessible to learners of all backgrounds. We will explore how Jewish law shapes identity (Halakhic Man), the tension between human achievement and spiritual longing (The Lonely Man of Faith), the Jewish response to suffering (Kol Dodi Dofek), and the power of repentance (On Repentance). Together, we will explore Rabbi Soloveitchik’s unique vision of faith and responsibility, and how his ideas speak to universal questions of meaning and destiny.
This course is offered in collaboration with the Green Road Synagogue.
