THERE IS ANOTHER WAY tells the story of Combatants for Peace, nominated for two Nobel Peace Prizes, an extraordinary bi-national group of former enemy combatants - Israelis and Palestinians - who were sworn enemies but for almost 20 years, in the midst of ongoing violence in the region, chose to lay down their weapons and work through nonviolence for the benefit of all people in the region. Faced with the devastation and escalating violence of October 7th and the war in Gaza, the very core of the movement must face great challenges and show that there is another way.
The nationwide screening tour is designed to provide “third spaces” where audiences can engage in an experience that transcends tribalism, questions our deeply ingrained narratives, and embraces our shared humanity. Director Stephen Apkon states “It is a strangely ‘radical’ idea today to hold the suffering, the capacity for violence as well as peace, compassion, and love, in other words, the humanity of people engaged in conflict in a shared space. Yet it is exactly this that I believe is essential to reclaiming our humanity and what is possible as we begin to humanize “the other.” Producer Marcina Hale, who grew up in Ashtabula where her mother still resides, shares that “The Reconsider Team has always been committed to creating opportunities for connection, conversations and communities and THERE IS ANOTHER WAY is a very powerful film that honors both the sensitivity of conflict as well as the immense opportunity to envision a greater humanity."
