An Artist’s Palette runs April 4-26 in the Westheimer Gallery, Thursdays and Fridays 3-7PM, Saturdays 12-4PM, or by appointment.
ARTIST BIO:Marilee Klosterman’s journey to becoming a celebrated pastel artist is one of resilience and passion. With a professional background in Clinical Laboratory Science, she had an accomplished career that culminated in teaching Medical Technology at the University of Cincinnati before retiring. However, her lifelong calling to art led her down a transformative path.
In 2017, while constructing her studio in Indiana, Marilee was diagnosed with leukemia. After two bone marrow transplants and a challenging two-year recovery, she emerged as an award-winning pastel artist. Her work, characterized by its depth and vibrancy, has earned her recognition in both local and national juried competitions.
Marilee is an active member of several prestigious art organizations, including the Pastel Society of America, Piedmont Pastel Society, Hoosier Art Salon, and Cincinnati Art Club. Her accolades include an Award of Excellence from Cincinnati’s prestigious Viewpoint Exhibit and numerous other honors.
FROM THE ARTIST:“My exhibit showcases the beauty of pastels, a medium that captivates with its tactile and organic nature. Painting withpastels is a hands-on experience, where the artist directly guides vibrant pigment onto the surface, bypassing a brush.The vast color palette of pastel sticks offers endless possibilities, yet the pursuit of the perfect hue remains elusive.Unlike oil paints, pastels are nearly pure pigment, bound just enough to form a stick, ensuring colors that remain vividand surfaces that endure without fading or cracking. For me, painting with pastels is both an enduring passion and anendearing art form.” – Marilee Klosterman
