Join us as we kick off The Ghostlight Stage Company's second annual Shining a Light Workshop and Lecture Series with "Taxes for Artists," a lecture led by tax expert and arts lover Leanne Greenberg (of Ohio Tax Service, Inc).
About the Speaker: Leanne Greenberg (she/her) had been an income tax return preparer for over 40 yrs. She is part owner of an independent tax preparation company. She received a BA in Fine Arts from Indiana University of Cincinnati in 1979. While she was auditioning for stage work, her father, who worked for a tax preparation business, suggested that she take a course in tax preparation and work with him. She prepared her first tax return in January of 1980 and has not missed a tax season since. Due to the “seasonal” business of personal income tax preparation, it allowed her to pursue the stage work also. She has performed locally and regionally for many theaters, done commercial work, delivered singing telegrams, performed at corporate events, and still continues to perform. She has also worked behind the scenes stage managing, running props, doing décor and set dec, and costuming. Because of her connection to the arts, she is more aware of the income and deductions for people in the arts. She can speak the language and understands the challenges of the arts.
In this lecture we will cover:
- W-2 vs 1099 income
- Filling out a W-4 vs a W-9
- Single member LLC
- Deductions for the arts that are everyday expenses
- Income from different states
- General deductions for everyone, not just in the arts
- Keeping track of income and expenses
- What income needs to be reported
The 2025 Shining a Light Workshop and Lecture Series is supported by the generosity of tens of thousands of contributors to the annual ArtsWave Campaign, the region’s primary source for arts funding. This series is specifically funded by the 2025 Young Professionals Grant.
