The Cincinnati Civic Orchestra invites you to our Spring concert at Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church in Liberty Twp. We are excited to perform the seldom-heard Symphony No. 1 in C Major by Georges Bizet, written in his sixth year at the Paris Conservatory. Bizet started work on the symphony four days after turning 17, and the symphony was evidently a student assignment. It is energetic, full of the youthful excitement of a teenager, and an extraordinary accomplishment in melodic invention, thematic handling and orchestration. Unfortunately, it was never performed at the Conservatory and remained hidden and forgotten in the library archives for almost a century until it was discovered in 1933. The orchestra will also perform sections from Bizet’s well-known Carmen Suites and the "Can Can" from the opera "Orpheus in the Underworld" by Jacques Offenbach. The concert will open with our brass section performing the Fanfare La Peri by Paul Dukas and end with the music from "Les Miserable" to welcome our summer pops series titled "All Time Favorites."
The Cincinnati Civic Orchestra is one of our nation’s oldest all-volunteer symphony orchestras, performing its 96th season of free concerts for appreciative audiences throughout the Greater Cincinnati area. The orchestra is again honored to play at Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church.
