Prepare yourselves to be bewitched body and soul… by witches! Ready yourself for emotional vampires… and real ones! Guard your heart against the gothic novel and g-g-g-ghosts?! It’s the scariest season of all! And even Jane Austen enjoyed sitting down with a spooky gothic novel (think Twilight but with even MORE melodrama) on a dark and stormy night. Just like Jane Austen satirized and celebrated the Gothic novels of her day with her novel Northanger Abbey, so shall the players of Improvised Jane Austen this October! Blending the Gothic Novel with Jane Austen’s signature romantic comedy and social satire, Improvised Jane Austen presents: The Gothic Novel!
Improvised Jane Austen is a comedic ensemble that creates unscripted performances using Jane Austen's tropes, themes, and language to create a romantic comedy set in Regency-era England now with a gothic novel twist! Playing in Austen’s world, Improvised Jane Austen’s stories delight 21st century audiences with a modern sense and sensibility. The current cast of 20+ performers rotate weekly, creating a new ensemble for every show. Come for the humor (and horror), stay for the heart!
Throughout the show’s run, Improvised Jane Austen’s has been Chicago Reader Recommended, named a PerformInk Critics’ Pick, voted Best sketch/improv troupe 2019 in the Reader’s Best of Chicago, and was featured on WTTW playlist, in Time Out, on WGN’s Daytime Chicago and most recently on CBS News Chicago.
