Japanese gastropub TenGoku Aburiya, named “the best Japanese restaurant within Chicago’s city limits” by Chicago Magazine and a hidden day-off dining haven for some of Chicago’s most beloved chefs, is revealing its first-ever chef collaboration series, Bento & Co.! To kick things off, Sangtae Park, executive chef of TenGoku, and Chris Jung, executive chef of Maxwells Trading, which was named one of The New York Times’ 25 best restaurants in Chicago in 2024, have teamed up to create two renditions of their ideal bento box, combining two's shared Korean heritage, Japanese techniques, and passion for flavors that excite. Stop by TenGoku for lunch (11:30 am - 1:30 pm) to grab the Pork Katsu box served with melon snow crab maki, classic tamagoyaki (a Japanese rolled egg omelet), zuke, rice and miso soup from Tuesday, 11/5 to Friday, 11/15. Then, from Tuesday, 11/19to Friday, 11/29, try out the Pompano white fish box with a Cantonese-style egg sauce and sides of snow crab maki and classic tamagoyaki, plus a fresh potato salad, housemade kimchi, rice and miso soup.
