The Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest is bringing its 22nd annual Spring House Walk to the northeast corner of River Forest on Sunday afternoon May 3, putting the spotlight on the “American Dream Homes” built by successful businessmen.
The tour will showcase five houses of all different architectural styles and time periods, each with owners who created or expanded national businesses and built their family dream home. Learn about the bosses of companies that made tin cans, valves, rollers skates and little red wagons.
Tying into the celebration of our country’s 250th anniversary, the tour will explore the lasting beauty of these River Forest homes, the legacies of their homeowners and their representation of the American Dream.
Generous homeowners have agreed to open the first floors of their homes to the public between 1 and 5 p.m. as a benefit for the Historical Society, showing off the interiors and allowing visitors a close-up view of their exterior architecture, led by volunteer guides. Hear about the houses and the families who called them home.
