Music lovers are invited to come and hear the energizing, uplifting sounds of the Voices of Hope Community Chorus at the group’s upcoming spring concerts on April 5 and 6, 2025 in Glenview and Oak Park, respectively. Voices of Hope members, each touched in some way by breast cancer, sing from the heart to convey their message of joy and support to their audience as well as to each other. This spring’s theme is “I’ll Fly Away: Music That Will Transport Your Spirit¸” featuring songs of optimism, hope, and celebration. The repertoire showcases a delightful blend of music genres, from country to gospel to Broadway to contemporary pop. Those in the audience who are moved by what they hear are encouraged to consider joining our chorus in the fall of this year. In fact, several people in our audiences have become members of the chorus. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Park Ridge. Members of the chorus come from all over Chicagoland. A Unique Chorus Voices of Hope (“VOH”) is a welcoming, inclusive, non-audition chorus open to all. Our mission is to embrace the joy of music and the supportive power of community for those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. Some of our members have experienced breast cancer firsthand, while others have family or friends who have faced this disease. All of our members thrive on VOH’s unique sense of community as we celebrate breast cancer survivorship and harness the emotional and physical benefits of song. Voices of Hope has more than 60 singers, including men and women. Known for a vibe that is both soul-stirring as well as upbeat and fun, Voices of Hope concerts emphasize “popular music” from various eras, ranging from present time to decades earlier and even occasionally back to the 1800s. Artistic director Kevin Kelly draws from show tunes, movie and TV themes, Motown, the Beatles, many other pop, rock and folk groups and artists, and The Great American Songbook. Our most recent concert included songs by Cole Porter, the Gershwin Brothers, Billy Joel, Carole King, the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, and Smokey Robinson. In addition to lifting the spirits of our singers and audiences, Voices of Hope aims to donate a portion of our tickets sales from every concert to organizations that provide support to breast cancer patients and their families and/or are involved in breast cancer research. Voices of Hope Community Chorus, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is financially sustained by membership dues, concert receipts, and donations. Voices of Hope is not associated with any particular religion or religious beliefs. For more information, visit https://voicesofhopecc.org.
