The ESO is joined by the North Shore Choral Society, (Julia Davids, Music Director), to present Johannes Brahms’ German Requiem. Brahms composed his German Requiem, one of the great choral sacred works in the repertoire, after the death of his mother in 1865. Unlike most Latin requiems, which emphasize judgement and salvation, Brahms’ composition, in German, aims to provide comfort and console the living. The Requiem is paired with two vocal compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: the exhilarating Exsultate Jubilate, a signature work featuring soprano Josefien Stoppelenburg, and a duet from Don Giovanni, in which Stoppelenburg is joined by Bass-Baritone Evan Bravos.
