CHICAGO, IL The Old Town Teachers Organization (OTTO) and the Resource Center at the Old Town School of Folk Music are partnering for the 2nd annual celebration of the Labor Movement to be held Friday, May 1st, 7:00-9:00 pm at the Lincoln Park Location of the Old Town School of Folk Music, 909 W. Armitage Ave, Chicago. Come raise your voices as our teaching artists guide you through a powerful history of song and struggle.
Rooted in Chicago’s deep connection to International Workers’ Day, this program brings together music, storytelling, and community participation to explore the struggles and triumphs of working people across generations. Led by acclaimed teaching artists and union members from the Old Town School of Folk Music, participants will experience how music has amplified workers’ voices and movements over time through live performance and shared singing.
Attendees are encouraged to join in and sing along to songs that reflect collective action, resilience, and hope—continuing a long-standing folk tradition of storytelling through music. An annotated songbook and bibliography will be provided to all participants.
This unique program highlights the School’s ongoing commitment to connecting music with cultural and social history, inviting audiences to reflect on the past while engaging with the present through song.
