Writing workshop with Kristin Gourlay

Need a little writing inspiration? Interested in historical fiction? Oak Park River Forest Museum, 129 Lake St., is hosting a generative fiction workshop to get those creative juices flowing from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 22, with Oak Park-based writer and journalist Kristin Gourlay. We’ll use photos from the collection at OPRF Museum as our inspiration for a series of writing prompts. We’ll explore character, setting, and point of view. Our goal is to generate one or two pages, but you can write as much or as little as you like. Use your writing as a jumping off point for a new story, inject some playfulness into your writing routine, or just experience the fun of writing in community. Beginners to experts are welcome to attend. For ages high school and up. Bring a laptop or a notebook. Regular admission rates apply; free for members. Gourlay’s work has appeared on NPR and several NPR member stations, in McSweeney’s and The Rumpus She also writes a Substack called Magic Silver Bullet, about a common desire for the perfect cure. She holds a master’s in journalism from Columbia University and studies fiction at Storystudio Chicago. She is currently working on a historical fiction novel.
