Visceral returns to the Museum of Contemporary Art for SPRINGTHIRTEEN featuring a bold program with audience favorites 18+1 by Gustavo Ramírez Sansano, If You by Micaela Taylor, and signature works by Founder/Artistic Director Nick Pupillo.
Returning Audience Favorites
Mad Skin by Nick Pupillo is a duet that explores the sense of attachment that in return receives no emotion and a desperate plea to gain attention. It combines physical and raw movement with subtle and delicate qualities which expose the human characteristics of the dancers.
18+1 by Gustavo Ramirez Sansano is a joyous piece, celebrating Sansano’s career as a choreographer. The work is set to the playful mambo music of Cuban bank leaned Perez Prado whose compositions and arrangement popularized the mambo in the 1950s.
If You by Micaela Taylor draws on the real-life exhaustion of early motherhood and a curiosity about what our bodies can say without words, how vulnerability can look like both strength and softness. With twelve dancers, the piece digs into what’s happening beneath the surface and turns it into something you can feel up close: a raw, intimate look at connection and that nagging fear of missing out.
Synapse by Nick Pupillo was commissioned for Visceral Dance Chicago by the Harris Theater for Music and Dance with support from the Pamela Crutchfield Dance Fund through the Imagine Campaign, is an LED-light immersive experience that has stimulated the Chicago audience with a responsive interaction of music, dance and lighting. Electrical energy joins together the driving house beat of Darryl Hoffman's work with the technicality and provocativeness of Visceral Dance Chicago.
