The Jazz Ensemble celebrates Muhal Richard Abrams, one of the most prolific and influential African American composers and improvisers. As one of the original founders of the AACM in Chicago, Abrams worked tirelessly as a composer, educator, and arts organizer to expand the possibilities of and opportunities for improvised music within and beyond African American musical traditions.
