Lincoln Square Pottery Studio - Learning Center has curated its Annual Pottery of Protest for Saturday, March 1st from 6-9pm. The 8th annual exhibition is a way for the non-profit to amplify the passionate voices of its students.
When the studio’s artists turn their attention to injustice, the truth becomes exponentially magnified. The establishment’s students absorb difficult realities that translate into rage, fear and hope- all through their ceramic works. Their unwavering perspectives invite people to recognize and question the turmoil outside the bubble of their own lives.
Under construction for the show; “SPOT” (Self Perpetuating Organic Terrainium) by studio volunteer Paul Schultz. The artist, who designed and built a fully-functioning tiny home (“Toybox”, 150 square feet, 2014), is flushing out his future abode through clay. Schultz is using slab building techniques to create this efficient building, which will flip the script on current housing. Human presence in the home will help heal the land around it; composting toilets, black water waste recycling and the ability to unplug from the system. Other new works address politics, violence, the environment and peace.
Each exhibition year the studio couples its protest exhibition with a Buy-A-Cup Benefit. Artists donate a cup of their own creation, giving attendees a chance to hunt for the perfect piece to take home. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to a charity of choice. This year, LSPS-LC will provide the funds to Reduce Waste Chicago. RWC’s simple goal is to help Chicagoans minimize waste through Reuse and Recycling pop-up events across the city. Hard-to recycle items like aerosol products, athletic shoes and car seats are just a few of items they help get to the right facilities.
Stop by Pottery Of Protest 8 on 3/1/25, 6-9pm for insightful artwork, a sense of purpose and an open and inviting artistic community! LSPS-LC is located at 4150 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL. 60618.
