The first performance of the Harris Theater's Kids Meet the Music series features Chicago Black chamber music collective D-Composed String Ensemble for an engaging afternoon celebrating music by Black composers that uses percussive and rhythmic sounds.
Presented in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Lower Lobby, the ensemble will perform with percussionist Josh Jones to explore the rhythmic sounds of string instruments with compositions by Jessie Montgomery and Daniel Bernard Roumain.
This musical journey concludes with a collaborative moment between the artists and opportunities for the audience to join in on the music-making fun!
Little ones can stick around afterwards for an instrument meet and greet, where they can get up close and personal to learn more about some of the featured instruments.
All Kids Meet the Music performances offer Sensory Friendly and ASL interpretation services.
