East Chicago, IN — On Monday, January 19, 2026, I Too Sing America Organization of NWI Inc will host its Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Candlelight Vigil March and Day of Service, continuing a long-standing tradition of honoring the life, legacy, and mission of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The event will take place in collaboration with Greater Destiny Bible Church, under the leadership of Apostle Kelly B Williams and is open to the public.
This year’s observance is centered around the theme “Mission Possible II,” reinforcing the belief that through unity, faith, and service, the work Dr. King began remains achievable today.
The event will begin with a Candlelight Vigil March at 6:30 a.m., followed by an indoor Commemorative Service at 7:30 a.m. The march will start at the Subway location at 2204 Columbus Drive, East Chicago, and conclude at Greater Destiny Bible Church, 1930 E. Columbus Drive, East Chicago, Indiana.
The Commemorative Service will feature powerful messages from two respected faith leaders:
Pastor Donald Ramirez, The Cross Church, East Chicago, Indiana
Pastor Eric Boone Sr., Tree of Life Missionary Baptist Church, Gary, Indiana
During the service, individuals will be recognized for the impactful services they provide across various communities throughout Northwest Indiana.
This year’s recognition will also spotlight the Divine Nine (NPHCl) Fraternities and Sororities of Northwest Indiana, honoring their enduring commitment to leadership, service, scholarship, and social justice—values closely aligned with Dr. King’s vision.
The Annual MLK Candlelight Vigil March serves as both a time of remembrance and a call to action, encouraging participants to recommit themselves to service, advocacy, and community engagement. Community members who are unable to participate in the march are encouraged to attend the commemorative service, as Greater Destiny Bible Church will be open and preparing for service during the march.
Stacy Winfield, President of I Too Sing America Organization of NWI Inc, emphasized the spirit of the event:
“Mission Possible II reminds us that Dr. King’s work did not end with him—it lives through us. This day is about action, commitment, and service. If you can’t walk, then run. If you can’t run, then find another way to serve. Together, we make the mission possible.”
The public is encouraged to attend and participate in this meaningful day of service, reflection, and unity, honoring Dr. King’s enduring legacy.
