Drawing is accessible to almost anyone, and has a democratic availability to all ages, financial situations and skill levels. For us, drawing embodies a core value of inventiveness and openness. In a world that predominantly values assertiveness, aggression and certainty, drawing becomes a form of quiet resistance. It is a space in which doodles, fantasies, half-baked thoughts and complicated ideas can be worked, re-worked, and live in harmony.
In this class, students are encouraged to explore multiple drawing techniques and discursive styles, and will be encouraged to push the boundaries of their mark making comfort zones with fun sketching games and classic drawing exercises. Students will keep a sketching journal and also work on a finished drawing project of their development. Each class will be a combination of a slideshow discussion, plenty of drawing time and community critique. Join us for a flower filled fête that celebrates what can be done with simply your hand, some time, and a pencil!
