Evanston Jazz! “Donovan’s Garage” Jazz Presents “The Standard Mix Quartet”


Get ready for the March "Donovan's Garage" jazz event "The Standard Mix Quartet." It's free and you're invited! The AKAR Auditorium will be the hot spot for jazz on Tuesday, March 10, when Donovan Mixon serves up dynamic evening of unique takes on famous jazz standards and original works by the blue chip quartet he brings to Evanston that evening. Mixon is the 2025 recipient of the Mayor's Award for the Arts in Evanston, recognizing the remarkable work he is doing to introduce Evanston to Chicago's great jazz artists through his free "Donovan's Garage" jazz events. And here's the lineup! (Check out the full bios at www.donovanmixon.com) Chuck Webb on acoustic and electric bass is a "first call" player who has performed worldwide with legendary artists including Aretha Franklin, Ramsey Lewis, David Sanborn and many more. He is widely regarded as one of Chicago's premier studio bassists. Damian Espinosa is a critically acclaimed pianist and composer arrived on the Chicago scene in 2000 to study music theory at the University of Chicago and to play piano on the Chicago jazz scene. He has performed with some of the city's most versatile musicians, most notably as a member of the Chris Greene Quartet. Clif Wallace, one of the city's most in-demand drummers has performed with a who's who of artists including Ken Cheney, Pharez Whitfield, and Rob Dixon, Robert Irving III, the Chicago Jazz Orchestra, and the Black Ensemble Theatre. In 2018 he assembled the Clif Wallace Big Band. Donovan Mixon on jazz guitar is the creator of the "Donovan's Garage" jazz events, bringing the great Chicago jazz artists to Evanston for free community shows. He has performed worldwide, is a fixture of the Chicago jazz scene, and has just released an album of his work titled "Finding Center." The show will be on Tuesday, March 10 at the AKAR Auditorium, 2715 Hurd Ave. in Evanston (across from the Willard School). The show starts at 7pm. All "Donovan's Garage" jazz events are free. Families are welcome and donations are gratefully accepted.
