After nearly five decades on the frontlines of rebellion, art, and alternative identity, The Alley is throwing its biggest party yet. On Sunday, June 8, from 12:00 to 6:00 PM, join us as Chicago’s iconic punk institution celebrates 49 years of underground style, community, and unapologetic self-expression.
Founded in 1976 by Mark Thomas, The Alley has grown from a gritty storefront into a Midwest cultural landmark—serving bikers, punks, goths, misfits, artists, and anyone bold enough to carve their own path. This block party honors that legacy with live music, original art, bold fashion, and a celebration of the scene that made it all possible.

ABOUT THE ALLEY FAMILY
At its core, The Alley isn’t just a store—it’s a movement. Under Mark Thomas’ leadership, it became a refuge for those who never quite fit in elsewhere. Over the years, The Alley expanded into a hub for art and music through the Art Colony and Music Factory, two creative branches dedicated to nurturing emerging talent and preserving the raw creative spirit of the city.
The Art Colony has helped elevate voices from all walks of life—offering a space for expression, experimentation, and collaboration. And the Music Factory, a longtime underground incubator for local bands, continues to foster independent sound in a city that’s never stopped creating.
