Trade St This is the North Carolina Premiere. This project is part of a three year commitment to produce Luis Alfaro’s groundbreaking Greek Trilogy The desert is on fire. It’s being consumed by fury as Electricidad, burning with grief and hatred, keeps vigil by her murdered father’s corpse. She longs for the sweet revenge that will set his spirit free. When her brother Orestes returns from exile, Electricidad’s anger explodes, consuming everything in its path and leading her family to a final shattering confrontation. Transporting Sophocles’ Electra to the Los Angeles barrios, MacArthur Genius Award-winning playwright Luis Alfaro investigates violence, loss, and redemption through the lens of this age-old tragedy. Electricidad crackles with intensity, and transforms a 2000-year-old text into a vibrant, vital and thoroughly unforgettable myth for the modern age. Electricidad is published as part of The Greek Trilogy of Luis Alfaro. Based on Sophocles' Electra and Oedipus, and Euripides' Medea, Alfaro's Electricidad, Oedipus El Rey, and Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles platform the concerns of the Chicano and wider Latino communities in Los Angeles and New York through ancient drama. Three Bone Theatre is proud to produce all three works of this trilogy across three seasons. True to the original Greek tragedy, the play includes mature situations, smoking, violence, drug and gang references, and adult language in both English and Spanish. Electricidad is recommended for adult audiences Community Partner Organization: Enlace “Alfaro employs contemporary Latino idiom, displays a gift for poetry and a wicked humor that's not overused and writes character brilliantly.” - CURTAIN UP LOS ANGELES "[Electricidad] is quick and it is clever...Alfaro entertains and he builds strong characters, delivering his message with humor and without patronization." - CULTURE VULTURE "...Alfaro opens a window [into] the look, symbols, language, and attitudes of cholo/chola culture...Alfaro’s lyrical, strongly rhythmic, yet simple language...liberally blends English and Spanish." - THEATRE MANIA
