For the first time in Neglia Ballet's 30+ year history we will have not one, not two but FIVE professional alumni dancers return to Buffalo to perform! We once called them "rising stars" and they have certainly proved us right!
One piece we are particularly excited about is The Paquita Pas de Trois which three of our accomplished alumni will perform together showcasing virtuosic technique, intricate footwork, and Spanish-flavored movement. Adelaide Clauss (Houston Ballet) will be joined by Rowan Lindamood (Joffrey Studio Company Chicago) and Maggie Weatherdon (Royal Winnipeg Ballet) to perform this classical pas de trois, truly making it a highlight of the evening!
Our very own Sergio Neglia will perform a brand new contemporary duet with alumni Adrien Malof (formerly of Grand Rapids Ballet and Ballet Met) choreographed specifically for this year's Gala by Heidi Halt. Her pieces have become audience favorites over the years, so get excited!
Among the fan favorites returning to the stage this year will be Albatross featuring Maggie Weatherdon, Adrien Malof and Neglia Ballet's Pre-Professional students (future rising stars!).
Alumna Chanon Judson, Bessie nominated, critically acclaimed choreographer and performer returns in a performance you will not want to miss this! Chanon will be performing a self choreographed piece, Etude 11, Composed by Philip Glass, Commissioned for Philip Glass's 80th Birthday Tribute and Celebration of the Glass Etudes, Kaastsban Festival and oyce Theatre New York, NY!
Fjord Magazine exclaimed, “The high point of the show was Etude #11, danced by Chanon Judson...Her West African inflected movement peppered with splayed knees, angled elbows, fluid hips, bare feet kneading the floor, expressed pure joy... .“
Also adding to the evening of exceptional dance will be Neglia Ballet's Pre-Professional class in Emergence, a contemporary piece created specifically for them by a NYC based choreographer (and Buffalo native) Jennifer Golonka!
Returning again this year, from Colorado Ballet, will be Principal Dancer Dana Benton.
The evening doesn't end when the curtain closes either!
After the hour-long performance in the theatre, audience members will be invited to celebrate alongside the dancers with complimentary champagne and dessert, along with delicious appetizers by Espos Catering!
All donations and ticket sales directly benefit Neglia Ballet's CityDance Program and future public performances. If you can't make it, you can still be a part of the event by making a donation before June 1st and be included in our program.
