Buffalo Arts Studio is honored to present “Into Madness,” a powerful and deeply introspective photographic exhibition by artist Frani Evedon, on view from July 25 through September 5, 2025. An opening reception will be held on Friday, July 25, from 5:00–8:00 PM, in conjunction with M&T Fourth Friday at Tri-Main. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.
“Into Madness” is a series of thirteen photographic works that examine the emotional and physical toll of addiction, illness, and medical intervention. Drawing on her personal experience with heroin addiction, Hepatitis C, and the “cure” that nearly killed her, Evedon’s images reflect both the seduction of escape and the harsh realities that follow. Though her addiction lasted only a few years, its consequences have endured for four decades. Through her art, Evedon translates this journey into visual metaphors that confront trauma, survival, and the fragile hope of healing.
While trained in sculpture and metalsmithing, Evedon found that photography allows her to capture fleeting moments of synchronicity and construct layered realities that transcend time and space. Her work speaks to Lakota shaman Lame Deer’s belief that “the physical aspect of existence is only representative of what is real.” Her photographs often challenge perceived truths, offering multiple perspectives and exploring how trauma, memory, and spiritual inquiry intersect.
Frani Evedon’s work has been featured in local, national, and international exhibitions and publications. A longtime exhibiting member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, she served in multiple leadership roles, including President, with her term concluding in 2022. In the 1980s and 1990s, Evedon was an original member of Ujima Theater Company, where she worked as portfolio photographer and in various theatrical capacities.
