A talk co-hosted by Our City Buffalo and Our City Action Buffalo, celebrating the release of their new book by the same name. Who Rules Buffalo? Will be available in the Grosvenor Room, and a signed copy has been added to the Rare Book collection.
Buffalo is often celebrated by politicians and local media as being in the midst of a “renaissance” marked by growth and prosperity. But for many residents, the reality tells a different story.
In this talk, Our City presents Who Rules Buffalo? A Field Guide to the Local Power Structure, an investigation into how power actually operates in the city. Who is really calling the shots? Whose interests shape policy decisions?
Drawing on decades of research and on-the-ground community organizing, this field guide exposes a complex web of corporations, real estate developers, government entities, and power elites, often operating behind closed doors and unknown to everyday Buffalonians, to consolidate power, wealth, and influence. The presentation reveals how Buffalo’s elite exert outsized control over the local economy and political landscape, frequently at the expense of working people.
Join us for a critical conversation about power, accountability, and what it will take to build a Buffalo that truly works for everyone. Copies of Who Rules Buffalo? A Field Guide to the Local Power Structure will be available for purchase.
