History at Home: From Loudoun to Montclair: One Woman’s Experience of the Great Migration
Join the Loudoun Museum of Leesburg, VA as research volunteer Caroline S. O’Connell explores the experience of Flossie Sinclair Furr, an African American school teacher who was a part of the Great Migration during the first decades of the 20th century. Caroline will share the reasons Flossie Sinclair Furr and others from Loudoun County, VA made their way to Montclair, NJ, why some returned home, and the impact their time in the North had on their lives and those of others in Loudoun. The presentation will expand on an original blog post. Caroline S. O’Connell is a volunteer with the Loudoun Museum in Leesburg, VA. Her research interests include Loudoun County’s historic African American communities and Black-owned businesses. She has a master’s degree in Russian Area Studies from Georgetown University.
