Join internationally recognized photographer Sandy Skoglund for a gallery tour and talk about her artistic trajectory, immersive creative process, and theatrical approach to photography. She will focus on her celebrated work The Revenge of the Goldfish, featured in Modern Women / Modern Vision. The program also highlights her new book, Enchanting Nature, a playful and enthralling collection of her dreamlike, unconventional scenes, available in the HRM Shop.
For more than 50 years, Sandy Skoglund has merged sculpture, installation, and photography to create fantastical scenes for the camera. Her meticulously constructed environments—built by hand and inhabited by live models and proliferating objects—bend reality and suspend viewers in dreamlike, uncanny worlds where contrasting elements collide. Both playful and unsettling, her work explores pop culture, American consumerism, the psychology of space, and subconscious anxieties. Skoglund’s work has been exhibited and collected by museums worldwide and widely published. She is Distinguished Professor of Arts, Media, and Culture at Rutgers University.
