Refreshments will be served. Village Center for the Arts is pleased to present "Evoking Contrast", a two-person exhibition featuring ceramics by Bridgewater artist Matt Denning and paintings by Roxbury artist Beatrice Rossi-Landi. Through distinct mediums and personal histories, both artists explore contrasts in earth and atmosphere, texture and light, tradition and contemporary perspective. Together, their work creates a dynamic visual dialogue within our gallery space. Matt Denning – Ceramics With over 40 years of experience working in clay, Matt Denning has maintained a dedicated ceramics practice while operating his studio in the historic Red Mill in Bridgewater for the past 26 years. Although he chose culinary school over a formal ceramics career early on, his commitment to pottery has remained constant. Denning’s preferred firing method utilizes a wood kiln with salt vapor glaze, producing richly textured surfaces shaped by flame and ash. He also works in gas reduction and raku firing, allowing process and atmosphere to play an essential role in the final outcome of each piece. His work reflects patience, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for material. Beatrice Rossi-Landi – Paintings Beatrice Rossi-Landi grew up between Corpus Christi, Austin, and Rome. She studied graphic design at the Istituto Europeo di Design before earning a BFA in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design in New York. After 26 years in New York City, she and her family settled in Connecticut, where the landscape of Litchfield County became central to her artistic inspiration. Her paintings draw from the colors and contrasts found in the natural world, reflecting both her cross-cultural background and her refined design sensibility. In addition to her studio practice, Rossi-Landi has long been active in the arts community, serving for over 30 years on several boards. "Evoking Contrast" invites visitors to experience the grounded, elemental presence of clay alongside the atmosphere of texture and light on canvas. Two artists united by a shared commitment to their craft. For more information, visit villagecenterarts.org or call (860) 354-4318.
