The Connecticut Master Chorale, under the direction of Tina Johns Heidrich, will present its annual Holiday Prelude Concert on Sunday, November 24th at 3:00pm at the First Congregational Church, 164 Deer Hill Ave., Danbury.
Welcoming the coming holidays, the program features a stellar collection of outstanding festive choral music, which includes diverse selections for Winter, Advent, and Hannukah, with joyous carols, big band, spirituals, gospel and more.
Our concert opens with “Arise! Behold His Glory!”, a splendid Advent anthem proclaiming the changes that will follow the coming of The Anointed One. Dan Forrest’s inspiring festival setting of the beloved “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus”, begins with a brilliant brass fanfare and continues with his trademark magnificent vocal harmonies to the dramatic final verse.
A lovely choral arrangement of “The Peace Carol”, a song about the meaning of Christmas that was featured on the 1979 TV Special: John Denver and the Muppets: “A Christmas Together.” “Christmas in South America” will showcase four examples of cultural music from Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela.
Originally a hit for the world-famous American crooner Bing Crosby, the Hoagie Carmichael song “The White World of Winter” has been given a new jazzy samba setting. A perfect blend of two best-selling holiday oldies from the early 1950s, “The Man with the Bag and Santa Baby” were made famous by Kay Starr and Eartha Kitt.
The concert will close with “A King Is Coming to Town!”, an exhilarating gospel celebration of the Christmas story. “Get up! Go find your promise. A King is coming to town!”
The Chorale will be accompanied by the Connecticut Master Chorale Holiday Brass, and Joseph Jacovino on piano and organ.
Tickets are $20 if purchased in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets can be purchased from any singing member, by calling (203) 740-9533, or by PayPal – send to [email protected] (add $1 per ticket for processing fee.)
