The Emerson Hall Foundation, Stamford Downtown Special Services District, and
Historic Neighborhood Preservation have partnered to present Jane’s Walk Stamford on
Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM—a free, community-led walking experience
celebrating the stories, spaces, and shared history of Stamford Downtown.
Part of the global Jane’s Walk inspired by urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs, the event
encourages participants to engage with their surroundings and one another through
conversation and exploration.
Participants will be guided by architectural historian Wes Haynes and Stamford
Downtown Special Services District President Michael Moore on a walk exploring the
ideas of Jane Jacobs as reflected in the character and quality of intentional and
unexpected public and semi-public spaces—places where people gather today and
have gathered throughout Stamford’s history.
The tour begins on the lawn of Emerson Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation
of Stamford and proceeds south along Bedford Street, offering insight into the evolution
of the downtown urban core.
