Ten of Ireland’s Finest Gardens, a special St. Patrick’s Day lecture by internationally recognized garden tourism scholar Dr. Richard Benfield. The country is home to more than 400 public gardens and an estimated two million private gardens, representing centuries of horticultural tradition, innovative design, and extraordinary natural beauty. In this engaging and visually rich presentation, Dr. Benfield will showcase ten of Ireland’s finest gardens. His selections include both iconic destinations familiar to seasoned travelers and lesser-known treasures that reward the curious visitor. Through stunning imagery and expert commentary, attendees will gain insight into the history, design principles, plantings, and cultural significance that make these gardens enduring visitor attractions. Dr. Benfield, former Professor of Geography at Central Connecticut State University, is an internationally recognized authority on Garden Tourism and the author of Garden Tourism and New Directions in Garden Tourism. His work explores the intersection of landscape, tourism, and cultural experience, offering a thoughtful perspective on why gardens matter in both local and global contexts. This program is ideal for gardeners, landscape enthusiasts, garden club members, travelers, and anyone interested in Ireland’s rich horticultural heritage.
