We invite you to be part of that impact at the 25th Annual Walk to End Homelessness on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
For twenty-five years, this event has brought together neighbors, families, businesses, and advocates in a shared commitment to ensuring that everyone in our community has a safe place to call home.
The morning will begin with registration at 8:30 AM, followed by the walk at 9:00 AM.
The cost to participate is $35 per walker, and dogs are welcome to join you along the route.
On some of the coldest nights this winter, when temperatures dropped and winds swept through Bridgeport, dozens of our neighbors had nowhere safe to go. Because of the Alpha Community Services YMCA Cold Weather Emergency Shelter, they did not have to face those nights alone. From November through March, our community came together to protect those most vulnerable during one of the most challenging winters in recent memory.
Over the course of 47 extreme-weather activations, including a 37-day consecutive stretch of dangerous conditions, the shelter operated around the clock for more than 3,000 hours. During that time, 9,375 overnight stays and 18,750 meals were provided, while hundreds of individuals were connected to safety, support, and pathways toward longer-term housing. These numbers represent more than services delivered, they reflect lives protected, dignity restored, and a community that refuses to look away.
This work is only possible because people like you choose to stand together and take action.
Each step taken during the Walk represents hope, compassion, and the belief that change is possible when a community comes together. Your participation helps fund critical services, from emergency shelter and meals to long-term housing support, and strengthens the collective effort to address homelessness in Bridgeport.
Whether you walk as an individual, with friends and family, or as part of a team, your presence makes a difference. Together, we can continue building pathways to stability, inspire action, and create lasting change for our neighbors in need.
