Andrew Marlin String Band/The Murphy Beds

Andrew Marlin is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His latest solo record, Phthalo Blue, is out now. It features all original music by Marlin, recorded with a single mic at the Tractor Shed in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. In addition to Marlin on mandolin, the music showcases a slew of frequent collaborators, including Stephanie Coleman (fiddle), Allison de Groot (banjo), Clint Mullican (bass), Josh Oliver (guitar), and Nat Smith (cello). Along with this new release and his three previous instrumental collections—Fable & Fire, Witching Hour, and Buried in a Cape—Marlin has produced six albums of original American roots music with Watchhouse, formed the bluegrass group Mighty Poplar with collaborators Critter Eldridge, Greg Garrison, Alex Hargreaves, and Noam Pikelny, and regularly contributes instrumental performances to other artists and albums. He's recently played mandolin on recordings for Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, Plains, the Dead Tongues, and Phil Cook. Marlin is also an in-demand producer, producing albums for artists including Mipso, Kate Rhudy, Rachel Baiman, and Ismay. Over the last decade, he has toured with all three of his projects throughout the U.S. and Europe and appeared on high-profile programs such as CBS Saturday Morning's Saturday Morning Sessions and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. He has also headlined sold-out notable rooms, including Ryman Auditorium and Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre. Eamon O’Leary and Jefferson Hamer (a.k.a. The Murphy Beds(Opens in a new window)) present traditional and original folk songs with close harmonies and deft instrumental arrangements on bouzouki, guitar, and mandolin. In 2021 they released their second album, Easy Way Down, which the Irish Echo called “an incredible collection of songs delivered with grace and ease.” As well as playing with many friends and comrades from the traditional music world, they have also performed and collaborated with artists across the folk spectrum, including Beth Orton, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Anaïs Mitchell, and Sam Amidon.
