Gwendolyn's Nutty Nutcracker Children's Ballet
The Walnut Hill Community Dance Academy is presenting a twist to the Nutcracker this December. A children’s ballet inspired by David Ira Rottenberg’s popular picture book, Gwendolyn’s Nutty Nutcracker. After four years of sold-out performances, the ballet is back for its fifth year.
The ballet takes a humorous slant on the traditional Nutcracker. In this tale, Gwendolyn is a dancing pig who learns that being a ballerina in The Nutcracker is all about teamwork. Everyone pulling together creates the most beautiful performance and is the most fun.
The ballet is child-friendly with a narration based on the book integrated into the ballet, so your child never has to ask, “What’s going on?” The music is from Tchaikovsky’s famous score. The ballet lasts an hour with a 15-minute intermission.
