On top of that, John’s personal life was slowly unraveling while he was tackling what he would describe as “the most tragic case of my life.” Still, even though the outcome is pretty much a given, you can’t help but feel a strong urge—just like everyone involved—to uncover the who and the why behind it all. Genombrottet is inspired by the non-fiction book written by Anna Bodin and Peter Sjölund. Oskar Söderlund, known for creating the Snabba Cash series and serving as the head writer for the Rebecka Martinsson crime series, adapted it. Lisa Siwe, who directed all four episodes, kept things straightforward without too many stylistic flourishes, striking a perfect balance between the personal drama and the procedural elements of the murder case. Similar to the recent La Palma, this series consists of just four episodes, totaling a little over 2 1/2 hours. And like La Palma, it’s definitely worth binge-watching!
