To mitigate the risk of wildfires, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has developed the Firewise USA program. This program offers a structured approach for individuals and communities to enhance their wildfire resilience. The program involves the dissemination of information for homeowners and communities to bolster their homes and surroundings to be fire resistant. Examples of fire-resistant strategies include: maintaining homes and landscaping; removing anything that can burn which is right next to the home; and using fire resistant materials for roofs, walls, windows, and decks. The program also emphasizes collaborative efforts among residents, local fire departments and other key stakeholders.
On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, the Stallion Springs Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will sponsor a presentation about Firewise USA by Windy Ward. Ms. Ward works with the Kern Fire Safe Council and is the Kern County Coordinator with Cal Fire. The presentation, to begin at 6:30 p.m., will be held in the Stallion Springs Corral Room (adjacent to the gymnasium), located at 27800 Stallion Springs Drive. Residents from throughout Tehachapi and Kern County are invited to attend.
