YOKE

YOKE is a dark comedy about five strangers who gather for a weekend wellness retreat that promises transformation without explaining how. Through a series of increasingly unsettling tasks, the group is pushed toward confession, conflict, and moments of unexpected self-reflection and mutual understanding. This production was created through a fully devised process, with the ensemble building the play collaboratively from the ground up. Guided by the theme of sonder (the awareness that everyone has a rich inner life) the company generated material through discussion, movement, improvisation, and reflection, shaping it together into a one-hour performance. As with all Dirty Gold Theatre projects, the process was mindfulness-based, incorporating meditations, physical warm-ups, and regular check-ins to support both artistic risk-taking and collective care.
