The Legendary Joe King Carrasco Headlines The Backstage


Legendary drummer of the Texas Tornados, Ernie Durawa and the Durawa band welcome the iconic Joe King Carrasco to The Backstage at El Mercado South on April 29th for a return appearance. Known as the King of Tex-Mex rock and roll, Joe King Carrasco creates a stylistic borderland of pop rock and Latin rhythms. His cross-cultural music blends cumbia, vamp, salsa, surf, reggae, blues, and Latin-tinged polkas. In Gardner’s “Rockford Files,” and his song “Party Weekend” which is still known as the quintessential party anthem was re-released by MTV as “Party Christmas,” making Joe King Carrasco a household name to MTV viewers. Carrasco has received many awards including The Buddy Award for Best Latin Artist in 1979 and 1983, the Austin Music Hall of Fame in 2003 and 2012, and the Academy of Texas Music awarded Joe a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.Carrasco was honored with the Entertainer of the Year Award by the Academy of Texas Music along with a Historical Significance Award in 2013.
