SYNOPSIS: “Set in South Texas and Washington D.C. between the 1940s and 1960s, “APPEAL the New American Musical of Mexican Descent” introduces the historic vaudeville-like tent show “La Carpa Garcia” to tell the true story of Texas Civil Rights attorney Gustavo “Gus” Garcia. Winning a landmark case in 1954 which made it possible for people of color to finally have their equal place on juries, Gus’ success as the first Latino to argue a case in the Supreme Court, came at a high cost when he died homeless on a park bench in 1964, burying his monumental contribution to US Civil Rights history with him.”
