FUNDAMENTALS OF WOODWORKING (THURSDAYS)


Name: Fundamentals of Woodworking Instructor: Eric Yocom Skill Level: Beginner Recommended Prerequisites: None Age: You must be at least 18 years old to participate Class Description: Fundamentals of Woodworking is the launching point into our sequential comprehensive woodworking courses. This class covers the basic techniques all woodworkers should know, the tools needed to get started and two fun projects to apply those skills. Students will construct a Japanese toolbox and a set of Krenov Style Sawhorses while learning about woodworking safety, material knowledge, wood grain and movement, cut types, wood/part selection, woodworking machines, hand tools, milling process, basic joinery, basic shaping, and furniture construction best practices. Materials and material cost is included in this class and the lumber will be ready and waiting for each student. Students will walk away with their very own toolbox and set of sawhorses. Schedule: Every Thursday Evening (7 weeks) March 6th to April 17th, 2025 What to bring: The tools for this class are recommended. This means that you can bring your own, borrow them or buy them from us. You do not need to have everything on Day 1. Eye protection (mandatory) Hearing protection (mandatory) Dust protection (mandatory) Your own tools (recommended) Chisels and mallet Set of bench chisels Lightweight mallet Hand saws Western style crosscut saw or Japanese pull saw Measuring tools Tape measure Combination square Marking instruments Pencil Marking knife Notebook Water and snack (optional) Austin School of Furniture has the right to cancel this class at anytime if the minimum amount of students is not reached.
