The Montvales Celebrate New Free Dirt Records Release with Blue Cactus (Duo)
The Montvales bring their album release tour to Atlanta on April 8, celebrating their new record, Path of Totality, out March 20th on Free Dirt Records. Joining them for a special co-bill evening at Eddie’s Attic are North Carolina’s Blue Cactus, returning on the heels of their acclaimed album released last year on Sleepy Cat Records.
The Montvales have built a reputation for high-energy, harmony-forward Americana that bridges classic country storytelling with a modern indie-folk pulse. Their last release, Born Strangers, is produced by Mike Eli LoPinto (guitarist for Chris Stapleton) and recorded in Sean Sullivan’s Tractor Shed Studio in Nashville. Tracks from the album have been featured by The Bluegrass Situation, Holler, The American Songwriter, The Bluegrass Standard, Twangville, and more. The duo’s songs careen recklessly across the whole folk-country spectrum, showcasing The Montvales’ distinctive harmonies and building a sonic world just expansive and surprising enough to hold the wide-eyed existentialism of the stories and questions raised by the lyrics.
Blue Cactus, known for their emotionally resonant lyrics and seamless vocal interplay, have cultivated a dedicated following in Atlanta through years of steady touring and memorable live performances. Their most recent album, Believer, deepened their signature sound — weaving country soul, folk intimacy, and cinematic textures — and earned praise from tastemakers including No Depression, WUNC Music, Holler, Under the Radar, and The Bluegrass Situation for its evocative songwriting and modern roots sound. The album was named in Bandcamp’s Best New Country list and helped secure an official showcase at SXSW, a main stage appearance at Hopscotch Music Festival (opening for Geese and My Morning Jacket), and a feature on PBS’s new original music series, Shaped by Sound.
