Blending traditional documentary storytelling with animation and dramatization, this film explores the life and art of Nellie Mae Rowe, a self-taught Black artist from Georgia. Emmy-winning actress Uzo Aduba brings an animated version of Rowe to life as the film dives into Rowe's creative journey, struggles against racial and gender barriers and her long-overdue recognition in the art world.
The evening kicks off with a 6 p.m. pre-screening reception featuring complimentary food, beverages and live music, followed by the 7 p.m. screening and a post-film Q&A with the filmmakers. This screening is free to attend.
